NEURAXIS
BANDINFO:
These Canadian Deathmeisters under this unusual yet catchy moniker
were called into being in 1994 by founding members Steven Henry
und Yan Thiel in Montreal / Canada. According to the band the term
“Neuraxis” comes from human medicine, where it describes
the axial part of human nervous system. Good and important to know
- the listener should pay attention to this part of his /
her body while listening to the brutal sounds of Neuraxis. Just
to make sure it´s not going to be ripped to pieces and causes
a collapse. A few truly devastating live attacks in their homecountry
quickly brought the band a great reputation, that quickly surpassed
the regional boundaries. 1996 Neuraxis recorded their notorious
debut at Peter Pan-Studios with well-known producer Jean-Francois
Dagenais (Kataklysm). The twelve deadly tracks on this mighty debut
reflect the Grind/Death roots and already showcase those trademark
melodic runs. Neuraxis continued to shake up Quebec with their enormously
energetic liveshows. Guitarist Robin Milley (also plays with Torn
Within) replaced Felipé Quinzanos to become a permanent member.
Milley brought highly developed playing chops along with important
new fresh impetus to the sound of Neuraxis, who wrote new material
in no time. Still the line-up changed again: Drummer Mathieu Royal
and vocalist Maynard Moore decided to turn their backs on Neuraxis.
They were replaced by sessiondrummer Martin Auger (ex-Elements,
ex-Obscene Crisis) and larynxkiller Chris Alsop. This fresh blood
in the band´s veins led to the recording of a 4 track promo,
followed by yet another line-up change: skinpounder Alexandre Erian
(Despised Icon, In Dying Days, ex-Hidden Pride) and vocal sadist
Ian Campbell (Spiritual Might) completed the band. Our Canadian
heros played several gigs, the Montreal Metal-Fest in 1999 and 2000
with Emperor, Borknagar, Earth Crisis, In Flames and many more.
Neuraxis entered the studio again in late 2000 to record the „A
Passage Into Forlorn” EP with producer Yannick St-Amand. This
EP shows the progress in terms of technique and songwriting. After
even more liveshows and the completition of the songwriting process
Neuraxis decided to commence the recordings of their new album Truth
Beyond…” in March 2002 under the supervision of Pierre
Rémillard (Oblivion, Gorguts, Cryptopsy) at his Z Sound studio
together with Yannick St-Amant. The album contains 13 tracks, which
prove to be the most extreme, diverse and best arranged compositions
of these Canadian brutality fetishists. Frontcover art was contributed
by Mike Harrison (Misery Index, Dying Fetus). The impressive sounds
of death on this killeralbum of extremity must derive from highly
gifted and frantic musical minds. Neuraxis convince Grind/Death
Metal-Fans by unbelievable technical skills to which the bands adds
astonishing melodic content while maintaining the necessary brutality.
All players involved give their best, with “Truth Beyond…”
Neuraxis prove impressivly that extreme metallic brutality can be
crossed with prefectly developed technique and melody. The final
result is a monsterous soundspectrum of incredible diversity.
